Why not buy her a pink pearl necklace? Pink is the color of love, so a pink pearl necklace is especially suitable for a Valentine’s Day gift to the lady in your life.

Pink pearl necklaces come in many different styles. You can get single strands long or short, multiple strands, uniform or graduated, long ropes, chokers and pendants. You can also get pink pearl necklaces that are enhanced with diamonds, amethysts, crystals or mother-of-pearl. Some of the most beautiful necklaces combine pearls of different shades of pink.

Pink pearls can be natural or cultured.  Natural means that the oyster or musses in which the pearl was formed had a natural irritation which caused the layering of nacre, which is the lustrous part of any pearl.  Cultured pearls are formed in exactly the same way, except that the irritation is placed there by human intervention.

Because of their rarity, natural pearls are likely to be more expensive that cultured pearls, but the value depends also on the quality of the pearls. A cultured pearl of excellent shape, large size, attractive color, even surface and good luster will be more valuable than a natural pearl with imperfections in any of these areas.

Pearls are also either from salt water (sea) or fresh water (rivers). Salt water pearls tend to be more expensive that fresh water pearls.  This is because freshwater molluscs can have many pearls in one shell, while salt water pearls are usually only one pearl to a shell.

Pink pearls can range in color from a soft baby pink to a quite bright pink. White pearls sometimes have pink or rose overtone colors referred to as “tint”, and these pearls are rare and expensive. The Japanese Mikimoto company is the world leader in acquiring and selling pearls with pink overtones.

Pearls can be worn with all types of outfits, as they are classic and elegant.  They will work for formal wear, for business and for weekend casual. Perhaps the most versatile style of necklace is the long rope, as it can be worn once around the neck and either worn loose or knotted, or twice around the neck with a two-strand effect, or three times around the neck as a choker.  However a lovely single pearl pendant can be worn with everything in her wardrobe.

A lady always looks younger when she wears her pearls, as they reflect light into the face.

A single pink pearl pendant of fine quality is a better choice than a long strand of inferior pearls that are the same price.

A pink pearl necklace makes a fantastic bridesmaid gift, especially if your wedding has a pink color theme. Pale pink pearls are very romantic for your attendants. You can also mix white pearls with pink crystal accents for a sparkling look, and even alternate this with a pink pearl and clear crystal which looks very pretty and delicate.

Or again, you could make a statement by using bright pink crystals with white pearls. Yet another variation might be pale pink pearls with chocolate-brown Swarovski crystals.

If the budget for bridesmaid gifts is limited, pink freshwater pearls offer a lavish look for little money.

You can add pink pearl ornaments to your bridal bouquet to complete the theme, or even have your  bouquet made up entirely of pearls and crystals!
